Bring your favorite CD/mp3 to the store and push the volume of the amplifier to it's maximum. If it's a good system, the vendor will start to do some head banging with you. I mean, for the price of this plastic thing, you can have a true hi-fi system on the second hand market (everybody is selling their good stereo amplifier for crap 5.1 systems nowadays).

Try them first with your favorite music! Those speakers have usually bad electronic inside, if you have time, you'd better chose a second hand amplifier from 80'-90' with some basic speakers, they will give more in sound quality and longevity for the same price. (But the design and size may stop you!)
